The project visualizes data from the Freedmen's voter registration records of 1867–1869, covering approximately 48,000 individuals across 42 county sheets in Texas.
How can I search for a specific person?
Use our Search Records page to look up individuals by name with fuzzy matching that handles historical spelling variants. You can also filter by county, origin state, or year of arrival.
Can I use this data for my own research?
Yes. The underlying historical data is part of the public record. We ask that you cite the Texas Freedmen Project when using data or visualizations from this website in your work.
